Lions’ Larry Warford ranked among NFL’s most underrated players

Lions second-year guard Larry Warford is one of the three most underrated players in the NFL, according to Pro Football Focus.

PFF’s three most underrated, which was pulled from the list of its Top 101 NFL players, were Warford, Patriots DB Devin McCourty and Dolphins CB Brent Grimes. Warford ranked 67th on the Top 101 list, McCourty 22nd and Grimes 23rd.

Warford was the Lions’ third-round pick (No. 65 overall) in 2013 out of Kentucky and started all 16 games his rookie season.

“Warford was so good as a rookie that we named him our rookie of the year, given his excellent work as a run-blocker, both at the point of attack and the second level,” writes Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus. “Only six guards saw more snaps in pass protection than the Lions' rookie, and he was nearly flawless, allowing just 15 total pressures and no sacks. That works out to less than one pressure per game, and one for every 42.8 pass-blocking snaps, on a team that likes to throw the ball a lot.”
