Jason Garrett praises Xavier Su’a-Filo’s first start on Cowboys’ O-line: ‘He battled and competed ha

Xavier Su'a-Filo played well in his first start of the season at left guard, filling in for injured rookie Connor Williams. If Williams is unable to go this week, Su'a-Filo is expected to start again Sunday at Atlanta.

"In this league, one good game, it's a good start, but especially as an individual you have to be consistent," Su'a-Filo said. "And that's the name of it."
Su'a-Filo, who signed a two-year deal with the Cowboys after Dallas' Week 1 loss at Carolina, has plenty of experience starting at the NFL level. After being drafted by Houston with the first pick of the second round in 2014, he started 41 games for the Texans, including 31 over the last two seasons.
"He did a good job," coach Jason Garrett said of Su'a-Filo's play at Philadelphia Sunday night. "There are a couple potential Hall of Famers on that front, certainly multiple Pro Bowl-type players on that front, and he stepped in there and he battled and competed hard. You can tell he's played a lot of football in this league, and he worked very hard to get himself up to speed to understand what we're doing."

Lining up next to perennial Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith helped.
"When you're playing next to a guy like that, it really helps you with whatever you're doing, especially when we have combo [blocks] and we have to work together," Su'a-Filo said. "It's just something that you take pride in."
Williams had arthroscopic right knee surgery last Wednesday. Garrett said Monday that the second-round pick out of Texas is day to day.
