J.J. Watt believes in Tom Savage as Texans’ starting QB

A lot of NFL followers around the country are having a difficult time believing Tom Savage is the Texans' starting quarterback and will begin the season in that role.

Some Web sites have already selected quarterback Deshaun Watson, the first-round pick, as the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Savage's teammates have watched him learn Bill O'Brien's system, and they know he's working hard to take advantage of his starting opportunity in the last year of his contract.
One of Savage's fans is defensive end J.J. Watt, who's preparing for his charity softball classic Saturday at Minute Maid Park.
"He's had time to learn and grow," Watt said. "He's got a chance to prove what he's got. That's all you can ask for in this league – an opportunity. I think he's embracing that chance this offseason."
Savage started two games at the end of 2016 before suffering a season-ending concussion, forcing Brock Osweiler back into the lineup for two playoff games. Savage took a short time off after the season, then resumed working out at NRG Stadium.
"He's working as hard as he can to be the guy," Watt said. "Everybody around here knows what the goal is, what we have and what we can be. Now it's a matter of going out and executing it. I think he realizes that. Obviously, we want to create something special here."
