Bucs’ Jackson named grand marshal for St. Pete’s IndyCar race

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Vincent Jackson has been named the grand marshal for this month’s Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg IndyCar race.

As grand marshal, Jackson will lead the pre-race driver parade during opening ceremonies on the 1.8-mile temporary street course. Also, before the green flag waves, Jackson will announce, “Drivers, start your engines.”

“It’s a great chance to showcase not only the city of St. Petersburg, but the entire Bay area on a national stage,” Jackson said.

The race, slated for 3 p.m. March 29, ends three days of racing events along the St. Petersburg waterfront. The 11th annual grand prix, which serves as the IndyCar series opener for the year, will be telecast nationally by ABC.
